iMovie
When starting our AS coursework, none of our group had any experience with iMovie. This meant that we spent a long time watching tutorials and learning how to use the software whilst doing our work and consequently our knowledge of it was basic. iMovie became a vital element in our production as we used it for all of our editing. As we progressed through the project, we built on our understanding of the software. In the preliminary task for example, we watched a tutorial on how to have a stock motion image run alongside the main film. one thing of which we struggled with, was matching the colour saturation. Although this was not strictly all down to iMovie, as our shots were slightly different colours due to the weather changing, it was hard to use the colour match tool on the programme. In A2, we will be developing these skills to create a product which is of a higher standard.
YouTube
Consequently, YouTube additionally became a large and significant part of our learning process which inevitably contributed heavily to our project. Via YouTube we were able to access tutorials which showed us how to edit in different ways or how to perform specific shots to get an accurate and professional final shot, for example dolly zooms. In addition to this, we logged all of our videos and mini projects on this channel as it was a secure and easily accessible device. Going into A2, YouTube will become even more prominent in our coursework as we will be very reliant on it and furthermore, we will want to watch more tutorials on how to add a high quality shots as well as challenging ones. In AS, we did a lot of our research of genre codes and conventions through YouTube and this will be something we also carry on and develop.
